You’ve heard of theatrical improv with theater troupes, and you’ve seen musical improv at play with jazz musicians, but what do these forms look like when combined? At SF Salon Music, we continually explore the unexpected, and ”In the Moment” is all about that discovery. This performance will center on the collaborative nature of improvisation between the actor, composer, and audience. What will start as an abstract melody will transform itself into a theatrical story unlike any other.
Join us for what is sure to be an exhilarating evening of live creativity. Everyone in the room will have an imprint on the art created. We’d love to see you there!
Cooper Grosscup, Composer
Cooper Grosscup makes music that combines the erudite nature of the classical canon with modern idioms. His work spans many genres and styles, from historically informed concert music to electro-acoustic indie rock, assimilating influences worldwide. Born in Chico, CA, he relocated to San Francisco to attend conservatory and study with American composer David Conte, one of Nadia Boulanger’s last students. Cooper has composed for many ensembles, including residencies with Orvieto Musica in Italy and Insight Chamber in the Bay Area. His compositions include various combinations of strings, piano, percussion, and voice. He strives for music that surprises as much as it affirms, feeling both spontaneous and inevitable, old and new.
